What to Lookout For

When you are looking to buy a canvas, there are certain factors that you need to look into.

Here are 7 points the ReadyMadeCanvas.com Experts have put together:

Make sure the wood that is used to build the Frame is good quality softwood or hardwood
The wood should be of a good depth, at least 50mm (1.96 Inches). If the wood is thinner than it may look "cheap" and may look like a thin mounting board
Make sure than Canvas is actually fabric Cotton canvas and not a thin plastic imitation
If the Canvas is Cotton Duck, check the weight. All our canvases weigh 9.5oz
Make sure that the Canvas is Hand Stretched
Make sure that the Canvas is held into the frame with staples, as some canvases are held down into the frame with carpet tacks!
If the Canvas is going to be primed, make sure that the canvas has a Gesso Application and not cheap white paint. The advantage of having a canvas primed with Gesso is that the canvas can be used immediately with Oils or Acrylics
If you think the canvas below is strong, think again! Think, how strong is the canvas frame, if the wood which is makes and supports the frame is held together with Staples!!! All our canvases are securely screwed not stapled together to make the frame much more stable and rigid.
